The Dual Enrollment manager at Lake Sumter Community College called me back and I found out the "rules" for Dual Enrollment.
1. Must be in 9th grade or higher
2. Must pass the CPT with the below scores:
English - 83
Reading - 83
Math - 72 (to take MAT1033C - Intermediate Algebra, an elective)
95 (to take MAC1105 - College Algebra)
Please check the Dual Enrollment Manual for SAT and ACT scores that could take the place of the CPT.
3. Must have a 3.0 high school GPA
4. May take 12 college credits per semester and more after successful completion of the first two semesters
5. Dual Enrollment students may not take LSCC online courses
Please check out their Dual Enrollment Manual for more information!

I know this is LSCC, but what are the rules for taking more than 12 credits if parents are willing to pay for them? Same with online credits, what if you take them outside of the dual enrollment?
ReplyDeletewhen you have a student who is still in high school and going to college, there is no such thing as "outside of the dual enrollment." It is the state law and has nothing to do with the community college itself. The reason LSCC limits to 12 credits per semester, which is actually very reasonable, is to cut down on withdrawals from classes later (thus using up a seat in the class that will be vacated) and failures. The director there wants to see the success and commitment of the student first before allowing more credits per semester. I know there are students who handle more credits with no problem but at least they allow 12 credits! Some do not allow even that many.
ReplyDeleteI am still waiting to hear from Brevard Community College and Seminole Community College. I hate when people do not get back when you leave a message. I never did that when I worked at Valencia.
Just wanted to clarify that I was talking about 12 credits per semester, so about 4 classes, is what LSCC would like to see as the maximum for a Dual Enrolled student at least to start.
thanks so much for posting this! i am looking up information on the dual enrollment process for a girl i am mentoring in lake county. this is VERY helpful and i appreciate the manual you uploaded! thanks :) great blog, glad i found it.
ReplyDeletesometimes this information is so hard to find, it seems so hidden. it's great you are putting it all out there for people.
You are welcome! I know Dual Enrollment very well having worked for a community college in Florida in the Dual Enrollment department! :)
