Well, I have a nasty shoulder injury. It stinks. It all started a couple years ago when I was going to personal training and had some problems with a certain machine. Trainer said we'd use something else to get the same result. No problem. Then, when I realized that I was paying him to simply count repetitions with me, I stopped the training and was doing it in my own at the gym and suddenly one of the moves with the free weights started my shoulder "clicking." At this point it didn't hurt but felt weird.
Over the last year different exercises started making my shoulder hurt. I slowly dropped most of the upper body stuff I was doing. Damn, my arm muscles looked good, too! Now, they are back to the "bat wings" of a sedentary 50 year old.
This past weekend really capped it. I have NO idea what I did but now I can't move my right arm without stabbing pain. Crap! I am, of course, right-handed and I drive a stick. Fun. I hate asking people to help me with stuff and, frankly, people (meaning my family members) hate doing stuff for me that I normally do myself. No one else understands how to DO WHAT I DO! :) Ever notice that? "Can you please get that pot out of the cabinet?" "Just a minute." Wait, I want it out now, I'll just get it myself. Yeah, well, that's not happening anymore.
Through most of my kids lives my hubby traveled for work. He would be away for a week or two at a time and then turn around and head out again after a few days. It was weird and difficult but I learned how to handle pretty much everything on my own. Yes, even getting that HUGE palmetto bug (roach that flies and is the size of a mouse) that was on the wall right above my bed! I love my vacuum. So now his job keeps him home in our home office. I love having him home but I am used to doing stuff myself. I hate asking for help. He does it willingly and would rather I didn't hurt myself more. But it is weird for me to ask. I also whine a lot. Poor hubby!
I see the specialist next Tuesday which seems like forever! I looked him up on RateMDs and he had the highest rating for an orthopedic doctor. You have to check this website out. Very cool and they have a link on the doctor's page to the medical board in his state. You can check if he has had any, umm, "problems" in the past. You can see where he went to school, where he has worked and see those pesky problems. Cool site! I know the rating site is not scientific, but so far, it has been very helpful to me and my family.
Merry Christmas!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's not a serious (meaning requiring surgery) injury.
ReplyDeleteThanks!! Me, too!
ReplyDeleteFeel better, Karen. Hoping for a non-surgical solution as well.
