Homeschooling and Sports

I have not covered sports while homeschooling in this blog. Here is an article about a group of mostly home educated kids in Mississippi who just want to play football. They have a team and play against the private schools but are not funded except through whatever the parents can scrape together. The story of Tim Tebow, a homeschooled young man who went on to become one of the best players at University of Florida has the homeschooled community looking for state laws to change to allow these students to play on high school teams. He is from Florida and played for a public school. Floridian homeschooled students are lucky that Florida allows these kids to play sports on their teams. Sadly, the college football coaches look to high school football teams to make scholarship offers so students from other states are at a disadvantage.

If your student is interested in sports in high school, many states force the family to choose between home education or attending the local public high school in order to play.

Please read the article here:

There are many other sports that homeschooled students can participate in that do not require a high school team but football seems to be one that does.
