Local Community College Dual Enrollment Rules

OK, here we go!

I have been to the local Central Florida community college websites and found information about Dual Enrollment (or Early College). Each community college has some leeway when it comes to admission policies.

Valencia Community College - This is where I used to work so I know the ins and outs here. The rules:
1. Must be 16 and Junior in high school (rising Junior is OK, Summer Term B after 10th grade)
2. Must have a 3.0 unweighted cumulative GPA (basically a B student)
3. Must take the SAT, ACT or CPT test (they must have test scores in the system)
That's the basic rules. At Valencia a student does not need college level test scores in order to Dual Enroll. Even if a student has low test scores he can still take courses that are NOT English or Math.

Lake-Sumter Community College -
1. Must be a high school Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior
2. Must take the SAT, ACT or CPT and reach COLLEGE LEVEL scores in order to Dual Enroll
3. Must have a 3.0 CGPA, unweighted
It is unclear if a student can Dual Enroll with a lower than college level test score. Two locations on the website differ.

Seminole Community College -
The website is extremely vague. I know it can be done! I will need to call them to find out the specific requirements! The website does show that DE students can register in mid-December for their courses which, sadly, would give them the bottom of the barrel. Most of the other students would already be registered for classes by this time.

Brevard Community College -
This website is also vague. I will call them as well to find the information!

Valencia allows DE students to take up to 19 credit hours per semester and the student can register at the same time as any other student.

Next post: Update on the rules for BCC and SCC and the test scores required for taking classes at each community college. (they differ somewhat!)
