Texting, A Sneaky Way to Stay in Touch

Continuing on the missing-my-kids topic, I have discovered a great way to talk to them without actually talking to them. Texting! Whoohoo! Now I can be a techno mom and still keep in touch without being TOO much of a pain in the ass.

We never had texting on our phones since it cost more and my hubby was not into it costing more. Besides, why on earth would you spend the time and effort to tap out the letters to a text when you can simply CALL the person on the phone? Really, it does seem dumb. However, my married daughter explained that she can text her hubby, who has a very simple teeny sound as text notification, while he is fixing the computer at a customer's place. No annoying RING, RING and he would have to quickly turn the volume off etc. The 'ole ball and chain checking up on him again. :) Now, she can text and he can answer very surreptitiously. Brilliant! Another way to keep the manly thing going AND for daughter to ask husband "when will you be home?"

Recently I have discovered that my kids do not seem to mind hearing from me if I text. Good thing I have a qwerty keyboard phone or I would go insane! So I am a texting fiend! "Morning! how are you?" "Don't forget to watch Glenn Beck. He's on in a half hour." "Are we still on for the gym?" Stuff like that. No pesky phone calls but still giving and receiving information.

Now Shhhh! Don't let them know this is only a trick for parents of grown children to check up on them and keep in touch. You know, sad, lonely parents who USED to be the center of their world but are now superfluous!
